Cobra 6 Cue Slats with DB25 Adapter

I made some DB25 to RJ45 Cobra 6 Cue slat adapters. I suspect Cobra will make these in the future. (Possibly even connectors with 3 RJ45s so you can do cues 1-6 on one cable, and 7-12 and 13-18.) I find it simpler to just use my normal slats for cues 7-18. I can use these slat adapters to either connect to one of my parallel slats to bring cues 1-6 to a different area, or if I have unused banks on my 72M, I can just plug one directly into the 72M.

Why? I like to make thing things modular. I frequently have front stations with Strobes/Gerbs/Flames that I like closer to the audience. I can use one of these 6 cue slats rather than doing long runs back to my slats. I'm also able to pre-wire these and just plug them in the day of the show. (Shorter initiators are cheaper than longer and RJ45 patch cables are cheap.)

Here's the a shared Google Photos shared album of the pictures. (It actually has more pictures than shown here.)

So you can buy these DB25 Male to RJ45 adapters pretty cheap on eBay. (Around $1 or so)

They just push and lock into the connector.

Cobra uses RJ45 Pins 1-6 for cues 1-6 and Pins 7-8 as Ground.

On the DB25, Cobra does the following pinouts:

Pins 1-9 are cues 1-9

Pins 14-22 are cues 10-18

Pins 10-13 and 23-25 are commons

So we want to connect Pins 1-6 on the RJ45 adapter to Pins 1-6 on the DB25 connector.

You have several ground pins to choose from. I used the last 2 on the DB25 connector pins 13 and and 25.

I suspect you can just match the color pattern from the picture. I use a multimeter to verify continuity to the cue number when plugged into a slat to verify I wired the adapter correctly.

Here's what I did with the 6S Slat from cobra. I mounted it using black screw/nut/spacers similar to what I did with my normal slats. The hardwood cutout is actually the same size as a CD. That way I can use totes designed for CDs to carry them in.

Here's a the RJ45 slat in use on one of 5 front stations.

Here's a view of one of the stations. I'm using the DB25 to RJ45 adapter directly plugged into the 72M in this case.
